We all remember that Rheme Cleo looked a Westmoreland County Microburst square in the eye and walked out unscathed(mostly). And any band in their right mind would not tempt fate again, right?

Yeah….right!

Never ones to let a close brush with death, or at least a close brush with being Wizard-of-Oz’d across the highway, get in their way, Rheme Cleo will again take on the Pittsburgh raceway Park in New Alexandria on Friday, August 8.

Come out and check the band out between races and bikini contests at the track’s BadBoyz/BadGirlz night. It should be a lot of fun. The gates open at 7PM, and the band starts at at 8PM. Check out the track’s website at www.pittsburghracewaypark.com

Hopefully, there won’t be a follow up postmortem to report!

This weekend, August 2, Rheme Cleo will be playing a private gig to a few hundred people at FarmFest 2008. Tickets are $50 per person and include your beverage of choice, and a complimentary pig roast. You can purchase your tickets here:

Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA!

On behalf of our entire crew, we thank you for visiting our official home on the internet. Here you can find information on the band, check tour dates, post a comment, watch a video, listen to a song, and even find favorite recipes from the band members!

For years, Rheme Cleo has toured across the continental US, Europe, and Japan. The band has quietly built a loyal rock-n-roll following abroad, while keeping a relatively low profile in their home town of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Amazingly, if you approached a local on the street, they would probably know nothing about the band! While the band sold out venues in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and the former Soviet Republic, their anonymity remains intact at home! Just another Pittsburgh rock band!

The band is currently working on their 2008 tour, and will release a schedule as soon as it is verified and authorized by the powers-that-be. As much as the band would always like to put the decision making into the hands of its loyal fan base, issues stemming from 2002’s “You Schedule The Tour Dates” contest have forced the band to rely on its management team in our US headquarters.

Rheme Cleo will strive to keep its website current and alive; filled with the great content that its fans have come to expect from the band. Whether they are playing rock-n-roll in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania or writing reviews on their indie rock website, they will strive to outpace their fan’s expectations! If you would like to join the thousands of fans that have made RhemeCleo.com their home page, click here for instructions.

Thanks again for your loyalty! Rock on!

Just when you thought you heard what must be the Rheme Cleo sound, they decide to shake things up at the next gig! Their old buddy, Rockin’ Ray will be performing some tunes with them at their next private, invite only(sold out months ago!) gig. Ray has been rockin’ and rollin’ for as long as the band can remember! He played with Jimmy Mac, Carl, and Tim as early as 1978….30 years ago! To celebrate 30 years of hard rockin’ down separate paths, they are gonna come to the crossroads of their musical lives and ROCK The ‘O’ on July 4th! Coincidentally, Van Halen’s killer first album hit the streets in 1978, so the boys thought that it would be cool to rock out a couple of classic VH tunes. Jimmy and Rockin’ Ray are smilin’ big, as DLR and EVH are amongst their largest influences! To prepare for the gig, they got to work rehearsing last week. By the end of the night, the sound was coming together. By showtime, it will be classic! How can it not be? Ten minutes into their first rehearsal, Ray was on top of a chair singing!! The band will of course be playing their standard set of music, but they will undoubtedly be pulling out the stops and providing many surprises!

When it was all over, Tim the Drummer was the first to add comic relief, in his best Cowardly Lion voice…”It’s a twista’, it’s a twista!”. Rheme Cleo narrowly survived a harrowing experience just prior to performing their infamous ‘Bad Luck’ set at the Pittsburgh Raceway Park on Friday evening. The band had shelved the set for years following the Sydney, Australia outback incident that nearly took the band(also the last time the played on Friday the 13th). At that time, they referred to it as the ‘Bad Mojo’ set. It was a unanimous decision(Editor’s note: by ONE vote) to dust off the ‘Bad Mojo’ set and play it at the track. The band showed up early in the afternoon. The crew was there. The sun shone brightly as they completed their sound check and went backstage to relax in the secured area behind the stage. Far off in the distance appeared black clouds and lightning, and before long, it looked as if it may rain. As the storm grew nearer, and the wind picked up slightly, it became apparent that there was no escaping it. Soon there was a fine mist blowing through the 40 foot deep covered area, and Jimmy Mac suggested that the black protective plastic that he found, buried in a gear trunk, be placed over the equipment on the set. A genius idea, as the mist became heavier, and the equipment and instruments were getting wet. Suddenly, the light breeze became wind. The wind became strong gusts. Plastic was flying through the air. The gusts became gale force winds. The stage left speaker tower collapsed. Sheet rain was entering one end of the stage pavilion, and blew through the other. In between stood Rheme Cleo, as a unit, backs to the storm, bracing themselves for whatever the ‘Bad Luck’ set was to bring. Then came the hail. Millions and millions of pea sized bits of ice were shredding their backs. Then STRONGER gusts of wind. While joining the others to attempt to stay on the ground, Scotty Grill looked around to see if anybody needed to be rescued. He noted that everyone’s hair was blowing forward, water flying off the tips of everyone’s hair and faces. A river ran past the stage. Carl O thought for sure that the next step in this succession of events would be the roar of a freight train down the nearly half mile of flat, unobstructed ground in front of the pavilion…signalling a tornado. But it never came. As quickly as the straight line gail-force winds came, they passed, and the rain subsided to give way to clear skies. Just like the freak Sydney incident, the band overcame. Needless to say, there were no new fans created, as the event was canceled. But again, the Rheme Cleo experience grows as the music prevails and another moment has been created.

So, in true Rheme Cleo fashion, we go to our fans and ask for guidance: Should the band permanently shelve the ‘Bad Luck/ Bad Mojo’ set?? Please comment below.

We also want to take a moment and thank all of the great folks at the Pittsburgh Raceway Park for their help.

The band came out strong and never backed down. They played for about an hour prior to the Nied’s Hotel Band. The always tight rhythm section was right on, forming a perfect platform for lead singer Scotty Grill and guitarist Jimmy McCullough. They played their original tunes, which were tight as ever. They also mixed in a couple of blues rock classics to allow Jimmy Mac to put his classic axes to work.
Carl Oehling dazzled with both his bass work, and with his novel Chapman Stick. Tim Orban held down the skins, while Monica Davis provided her usual stellar backing vocals and moves! Shortly after the gig, they were informed that their services were requested at the Pittsburgh Raceway Park, in New Alexandria. The band is scheduled to perform their Bad Luck show at the raceway on Friday, June 13.

What is that thing that Scotty’s holding in his hand?

We get asked that question almost as much as “What the heck does Rheme Cleo mean?”

It’s a frog……

But not just any frog. It is a percussion instrument. There is a little wooden stick in a hole in the frog’s body. You take the stick out and drag it over the frog’s spine. It makes sort of a wooden clicking sound.

But The Frog has a well defined use, besides its musical attributes.

During any Rheme Cleo, Inc. band meeting, he who holds The Frog has the floor. Dragging the stick over The Frog’s back is the officially recognized symbol for “I’m talking now, so please SHUT UP!”.

So know you know!

Keep peace and harmony in your family. Buy a frog.
