Gramma Grill’s Coffee Cake
GRAMMA GRILL’S COFFEE CAKE (Your new addiction)(USE WARM BOWLS, SPOONS ETC.)
DOUGH: 1 c. Milk
½ c. Sugar
½ c. Butter
1 t. Salt
1 Egg
1 Package of yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water with a pinch of sugar
FILLING: 3/4 c. Melted Butter
3/4 c. Sugar
2 t. Cinnamon
ICING: 2 c. Confectioners Sugar
1/4 c. Cold Water
Crushed Walnuts or Jimmies
MIX
1/4 c. Warm water and yeast with sugar…let sit until it foams.
SCALD MILK
ADD
Sugar, Salt and Butter
Cool to lukewarm
PUT MILK MIXTURE INTO WARM MIXING BOWL
ADD
Eggs and Foamy Yeast…MIX WELL
ADD
2 c. Flour…MIX WELL
ADD
1 c. Flour…MIX UNTIL GLOSSY (The longer the better)
ADD
1 More c. Flour…MIX WELL
COVER BOWL WITH A TOWEL…PUT IN WARM PLACE UNTIL DOUBLES
DIVIDE INTO THREE PARTS
ROLL INTO RECTANGLES ON FLOURED SURFACE
SPREAD
1/3 Of Melted Butter
1/3 Of Sugar/Cinnamon Mix
FOLD LONG SIDES TOWARD MIDDLE…THEN FOLD AGAIN LONG WAYS IN HALF
TWIST AND PUT ONE END INTO AN OTHER…(The secret is in the twist…it seems that only Gramma can get it right. Near as I can figure it’s about 6 twists)
PLACE IN GREASED PIE PAN
COVER UNTIL DOUBLED
BAKE 350…25 MINUTES
ONCE COOLED…COVER WITH ICING
TOP WITH NUTS OR JIMMIES

This recipe makes 3 cakes…give one away to a friend. These cakes are highly addicting…you may need that friend later when you are in coffee cake therapy.
The secret to these cakes is time…don’t be in a hurry…and MIX WELL!
